637 Pressure Washing Companies, One Clear Pattern
We ran our SEO audit tool against 637 pressure washing companies across the United States. The average overall score was 55.9 out of 100 — significantly better than the laundromat industry's 45.3 average, but still leaving enormous room for improvement.
The score distribution tells the real story:
- Below 50 (Poor): 125 companies (19.6%) — struggling to appear in local search
- 50-69 (Average): 508 companies (79.7%) — visible but not dominating
- 70+ (Good): Just 4 companies (0.6%) — owning their local market
The top scorer hit 83/100. The lowest was 17/100. That's a 66-point spread, and the difference between those two businesses translates directly to phone calls, estimate requests, and revenue.
Why Pressure Washers Score Higher Than Most Trades
At 55.9 average, pressure washing companies outperform laundromats (45.3), Christmas lighting companies (50.0), and HVAC contractors (11.0 in our limited sample). Why?
Several factors contribute:
- Visual industry: Pressure washing generates dramatic before/after content. Companies that photograph their work naturally build stronger GBP profiles with more photos
- Review culture: Customers can see immediate results and are more likely to leave positive reviews. The average pressure washing company in our data had 158 reviews
- Website maturity: The pressure washing industry adopted websites earlier than some trades, giving them a head start on technical SEO
- Higher average rating: 4.91 stars average — the highest of any industry in our database. Happy customers = strong profiles
The 4 Businesses That Scored Above 70
Only 0.6% of pressure washing companies crossed the 70/100 threshold. What do they have in common?
- 200+ reviews with ratings between 4.8-5.0 stars
- Fully optimized GBP — correct categories, complete service lists, 50+ photos, weekly posts
- Fast, mobile-friendly websites with service-specific landing pages for each offering (house washing, driveway cleaning, roof cleaning, commercial pressure washing)
- Schema markup — LocalBusiness and Service structured data that helps Google categorize their services
- Active review response — responding to 80%+ of reviews within 48 hours
None of these 4 businesses were using paid ads as their primary lead source. They were all generating the majority of their leads through organic search and Google Maps.
The 5 Most Common SEO Failures We Found
Across 637 audits, the same problems appeared over and over:
- Missing secondary GBP categories: 68% of pressure washers only had "Pressure Washing Service" as their category. Adding "House Washing Service", "Roof Cleaning Service", and "Commercial Cleaning Service" expands visibility
- No business description: 41% had either no GBP description or a single sentence. The description field is a keyword opportunity that most businesses waste
- Slow websites: Average page load time was 4.2 seconds. Google recommends under 3 seconds, and the top performers loaded in under 2 seconds
- No schema markup: 89% of websites had zero structured data. Adding LocalBusiness and Service schema is the single fastest technical SEO win
- Inconsistent NAP: Business name, address, or phone number differed between Google, Yelp, Facebook, and the website on 34% of businesses audited
What You Should Do Next
If you own a pressure washing company, here's the priority order based on our data:
- Week 1: Claim and fully optimize your Google Business Profile — categories, description, photos, services list
- Week 2-3: Fix your website speed (compress images, enable caching, upgrade hosting if needed)
- Week 3-4: Add LocalBusiness schema markup to your website
- Ongoing: Generate 5+ reviews per month and respond to every single one
- Month 2+: Create service-specific landing pages and start building local citations
The math is simple: 79.7% of your competitors are scoring 50-69. If you follow this playbook and break into the 70+ range, you'll be in the top 1% of pressure washing companies on Google.
